KOLUBAIEV Oleh Leonidovych – Candidate of Arts, Associate Professor of the Department of Methods of Music Education and Conducting, Head of the Institute of Arts‘ internship and the Institute of Arts’ Men’s Academic Choir. He defended his dissertation ‘Galician Popular Song in the Process of Evolution of the Regional Tradition of Variety Music Art’ in the speciality 17.00.03 ‘Musical Art’ (2014). The dissertation examines the genre of popular song in Western Ukraine, which is not only an important component of musical culture, but also a kind of artistic barometer of social and cultural life, reflecting the leading socio-cultural demands of society, political realities, and reacting sensitively to stylistic modifications of world artistic trends. The analysis of a significant layer of popular songs formed in the context of specific socio-cultural and historical conditions of the region made it possible to identify the leading trends in themes, stylistic guidelines, genre system, expressive means, direction of evolutionary changes in the development of the genre, its social and cultural mechanisms, and to highlight the features of commonality and continuity. Each of the contemporary Western Ukrainian professional composers who addressed the popular song genre left a significant body of repertoire compositions that retain their artistic relevance to this day.
