Hanna Karas Doctor of Fine Arts Professor

KARAS Hanna Vasylivna – Doctor of Fine Arts, Professor at the Department of methodology of music education and conducting,  choral conductor, educator, scholar, public figure. Honored Culture Worker of Ukraine (1999), PhD in Pedagogic sciences (1996), Ph.D. (2006), Doctor of Fine Arts (2014), Professor (2015), member of the National Union of theatrical figures of Ukraine (2002), Member of musicological commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (2001), Member of the National Union of ethnographerss of Ukraine (2010), Member of National All-Ukrainian Music Union (2012), the winner of the regional Dennis Sichinskiy Art Music Award (2013) and Volodomura Poleka regional natural history Award (2016), honorary ethnographer of Ukraine (2015). Member the Academic Board and the Labor Collective Council of Educational and Scientific Institute of Arts, a representative of the Labor Collective of the University, member of scientific-methodical Council of the University, the Chairman of the Commission on educational and methodical work of Educational and Scientific Institute of Arts. Member of Specialized Scientific Council K 20.051.08 Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian national university (Ivano-Frankivsk) and D 26.850.01 National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts (Kyiv).

Born: 31 Oct. 1955 in village Rakivchyk, Kolomyiskyi district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. From 1971 to 1975 – student at the Musical–Pedagogical Department of Kolomyia Pedagogical College, from 1975 to 1979 – student of the Musical and Pedagogical faculty at the Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute. Specialty «Music and singing», qualification «Teacher of music and singing».

PhD in Pedagogical sciences, 1996, Institute of Pedagogics APS, Ukraine (thesis “The Formation of high school students aesthetic experience in the folklore groups”); Speciality: 13.00.01 – «Theory and history of pedagogy». 2002 – completed the scientific training at Smith College (Northampton, Massachusetts, USA) lecturing and raising professional level. 2007–2010 – carried out doctoral studies at National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts in Kyiv. 2014 – completed the scientific training at the same academy. March 27, 2014 – defended doctoral dissertation «Music culture of the Ukrainian Western Diaspora as social and cultural phenomenon of the twentieth century» and received a doctorate in Fine Arts, speciality 26.00.01 – theory and history of culture at National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts in Kyiv.

Has number of awards from Ivano-Frankivsk regional state administration and regional Council; the mayors of Ivano-Frankivsk and Kyiv; University rector’s office;  Secretariat of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine; Union of theatrical figures of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian OUN-UPA Fraternity; anniversary Diploma and Silver medal of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church on the occasion of the  2000th anniversary of the Nativity (2000); Order of St. Michael the Archangel by Patriarch of Kyiv and all Rus-Ukraine Filaret in recognition of services in the revival of spirituality in Ukraine and approval of the local UOC (2003). Honorary “gold” member of the international organization “Peace Stars” (Japan, 2003).

Lecturer (since 1990), associate Professor (1998), Professor at the Chair of choral conducting named after Vasily Yizhak (2012), Vice-rector (2010–2012), Head ofthe Chair of academic and pop singing (2014–2016), Professor at the Chair of methodology of musical education and conducting at Educational and Scientific Institute of Arts at Ivano-Frankivsk Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian national university (2016–2025).

1. Karas is the author of 500 scientific papers, local history monographs, digests, dictionaries, and articles. Main range of scientific interests – Ukrainian music diaspora, Ukrainian music history, choral and vocal art. Member of over hundreds of international and Ukrainian scientific conferences.
