The Faculty Mixed Student Choir (since 1993 – Academic Mixed Student Choir) was founded at the Faculty of Music and Pedagogy of Ivano-Frankivsk Pedagogical Institute in 1968 by Vasyl Yizhak. This choir has taken an important place in the system of academic subjects as a formative, central discipline.
Under the direction of its artistic director, an outstanding conductor, teacher, composer and public figure, Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine Vasyl Yizhak, later Professor, Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine Olha Nychai, and since 2011 Candidate of Arts, Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine, Associate Professor of the Department of Methods of Music Education and Conducting Zhanna Zvarychuk, the choir has become not only a creative laboratory for the education of music teachers, preparing students for professional work in choirs, but also a
The Academic Student Mixed Choir participates in cultural events of the university, the city, the region, and Ukraine. The repertoire of the choir includes arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs, works by foreign and Ukrainian authors.
In 2013 and 2016, the academic student mixed choir was involved in the first and second All-Ukrainian Student Choir Conducting Competition, held by the Department of Music Education and Conducting Methods of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration for Training Students for Professional Work in Choirs, and Ivano-Frankivsk City Council.
